m7/m12 motorway project

Not everything we build is a stage. But everything we build starts with a big idea.

For the M7–M12 Motorway project in Western Sydney, Stagekings worked alongside AlchemyCo to help transform an artist’s vision into 20 large-scale horse sculptures, creating a permanent public art installation along the motorway interchange leading towards Western Sydney International Airport.

The project combined large-scale 3D sculpture fabrication, structural steel construction, fibreglass fabrication and specialist scenic finishing. Before production commenced, every detail was carefully developed through sculpting, painted maquettes, patina development, finish sampling and full-scale prototyping, allowing the final form, colour and finish to be tested and refined.

Each completed sculpture stretches approximately four metres in length, with a structural steel framework wrapped in fibreglass and finished in a custom copper-bronze patina. Materials and finishes were selected to create the artist’s intended aesthetic while providing the durability required for a permanent installation within a demanding motorway environment.

Stagekings’ role brought together creative fabrication, technical problem-solving and turnkey project management, with meticulous quality assurance throughout the process. The result is a series of distinctive sculptural forms that translate a small-scale artistic concept into permanent, large-scale public art.

Positioned within one of Western Sydney’s major infrastructure projects, the installation demonstrates Stagekings’ capability to deliver complex public art fabrication where creative intent, engineering, material performance and long-term durability all need to work together.
